Sullivan Phillips has admitted he is distraught after a bureaucracy bungle ended his hopes of playing basketball for Great Britain at the Olympic Games.
The 31-year-old was pulled out of the squad last week after embarrassed British Basketball officials were informed that he had made an appearance for his native Bermuda in a competitive international, rendering him ineligible under FIBA rules.
And Sullivan will now nurse his wounds at home rather than reporting to the GB teamâ€
s training camp in Houston on Thursday.
“Truth is it sucks, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it wonâ€
t happen, so the reality of it all sucks,†Phillips told
.
“It affects you only a much as you allow it, and for the first couple of days I was extremely pissed off, felt robbed, was down and didnâ€
t want to believe I wouldnâ€
t have the opportunity.
“Presently Iâ€
m just understanding that it wasnâ€
t meant to be and when one door closes another opens.â€
