Sarah Thomson wants Caledonia Pride to bag the WBBL Cup in Birmingham today – and prove itâ€

s a club worth investing in.

The Edinburgh-based outfit will land a major womenâ€

s basketball trophy in just their second season in existence if they see off Nottingham Wildcats in front of a sell-out 10,000-crowd and a live BBC audience.

Yet no-one knows if the Pride will still be around past this summer after an initial funding deal runs out.

But our success, Thomson claims, shows thereâ€

s something special happening that deserves the chance to carry on.

The Scots star said: “Itâ€

s definitely worth it. Look at whatâ€

s been done in two years – itâ€

s ginormous.

“Yeah, we might not have the most talented squad on paper but we have so much potential as a team. And as a brand. No-one else has one thatâ€

s as strong as ours.

“You see the WBBL games broadcast on the BBC – you look at what we do around the games and itâ€

s head and shoulders above everybody. A game days isnâ€

t just about turning up and playing – itâ€

s a full-on event.

“So I think it would be a shame if it wasnâ€

t in the WBBL and more teams should be following our lead.â€

A post-Christmas slump means the Pride will be huge underdogs to come away with the prize. But weâ€

ve improved so much, so fast, that no-one should write us off, Thomson insists.

“This time last year, we were losing games by 40. Now weâ€

re going for a trophy. Thatâ€

s definitely huge progress. It also gives us confidence going to the game.â€
