Great Britain womenâ€

s star Jo Leedham is set to head Down Under next season after it was confirmed she will join Bulleen Boomers.

It will see the Cheshire-born small forward link up with GB coach Tom Maher at the WNBL side in the year leading up to the Olympics.

Leedham played for Polish side Gorzow for part of last term before leaving to rehabilitate her long-term knee injury.

Maher is likely to ensure she is not worn down before London 2012 and he hopes that a campaign in Australia will benefit both parties.

“I think it will be good for her,†he said. “Weâ€

re a developmental club. Players come to us because they know weâ€

ll develop them and they can earn more money down the track. We canâ€

t compete with the big European teams financially but thatâ€

s how we promote ourselves. So thatâ€

s why sheâ€

s coming to us.

“Itâ€

s not that weâ€

re just taking her as an import. Weâ€

re going to develop her and make sure sheâ€

s looked after. I believe it will help her get ready for the Olympics.â€

Leedham was GBâ€

s top scorer in EuroBasket Women in Poland, leading the side to the second round.

“It was important for me to take this opportunity so I can really focus on being in the best condition possible before 2012, and most importantly working on my game,” she told the BB website.

“I know I have so much to improve on and there is no better place to do that than at the Bulleen Boomers. They have the best of the best in coaching staff so I’m excited to be working with such prestigious people all year round.”
