The process to review the licence of the BBL – and potential replacements – is set to be pushed back after it was decided it needed extra time.

It is understood committee chair Lord Wasserman has pushed for a significant change to the timeframe set out by Basketball England, with an initial stage now established that will consider the terms of reference for the premier league license.

In a statement, BE confirmed: “The Committee therefore have concluded that its first priority should be to develop a series of recommendations to Basketball England on the key components of any licence that Basketball England offers for the operation of a professional league.

“The Committee will rely on Basketball Englandâ€

s sports legal advisers for support with this work.â€

The committee are now set to deliver initial recommendations by March 11 before considering in detail the rival options from the existing BBL and US-based BBall UK.

The basketball have been invited to submit their views on the process by March 2 to BEâ€

s solicitors via [email protected].
